People judge a concrete job by the finish. We judge it by what's underneath. Cracking, settling and uneven slabs almost always trace back to prep that was rushed — not to the concrete itself. Here's what happens before a single yard is poured.

Grading & compaction

The slab is only as stable as the ground it sits on. We cut to grade, then compact the base so it won't settle unevenly under load. San Diego's clay soils expand and contract with moisture, so proper base prep and thickness matter even more here than in other regions.

Forms & layout

Clean, well-braced forms set the shape, the slope and the edges. We lay out slopes so water drains away from the house and structures, and set control-joint lines before the pour so the concrete cracks where we want it to — in a straight scored line, not across the middle of your slab.

Reinforcement

Rebar and mesh, correctly sized and positioned, hold the slab together and carry load across the base. Placement matters as much as the steel itself — reinforcement lying on the dirt does nothing. We chair it to the right height so it works the way it's designed to.

Drainage

Water is what destroys concrete over time. Getting slope, thickness and joints right up front is what keeps a driveway, patio or foundation flat and sound for decades. That's why we spend our attention on the part nobody sees.
